Maureen Yuen-Mathai

Violinist  Maureen Yuen-Mathai has  performed  as  a  soloist  and  chamber  musician  in  the  United  States,  Canada,  Norway,  and  Italy.  Recent  projects  include  performing  the  

complete  sonatas  of  Beethoven  and  Brahms  with  pianist  Fr.  Sean  Duggan.  Her  interest  in  new  music  has  led  to  collaborations  with  composers  Chen  Yi,  Augusta  Read  Thomas  and  Adrienne  Elisha.  She  also  co-founded  the  annual  composition  competition  at  SUNY  Fredonia  in  2011  with  Robert  Deemer.  Active  in  chamber  music  collaborations  and  coachings,  she  was  a  founding  member  of  the  English  Bay  String  Quartet,  which  toured  North  America  and  the  Caribbean  for  many  years.  She  has  given  solo  and  chamber  music  recitals  and  masterclasses  throughout  North  

America,  including  recent  appearances  at  Western  Illinois  University,  Brock  University,  Pasadena  Conservatory,  Cleveland  State  University,  Louisiana  State  University,  Ohio  University,  Northern  Ohio  University  and  the  University  of  Minnesota  at  Duluth.  Ms.  Yuen-Mathai  joined  the  faculty  of  the  State  University  of  New  York  at  Fredonia  in  2004,  where  she  

maintains  a  full  studio  of  undergraduate  and  graduate  violin  and  viola  students.  She  is  the  recipient  of  the  2013-2014  SUNY  Chancellor’s  Award  for  Excellence  in  Teaching,  selected  from  a  pool  of  nominated  faculty  from  64  different  campuses  composing  the  State  University  of  New  York.
